Making Tenses Easy in Afrikaans: Part 9 – "Ge'" inside verbs in the past tense
In this lesson, you will learn how prepositions affect the different tenses. By the end of the lesson, you will be able to form Afrikaans sentences with prepositions in them without difficulty.
Prepositions and tenses.
Some verbs are made up of a combination of a
verb and prepositions. Prepositions are words that tell you where someone or
something is.
In the present tense, the preposition goes after the
verb, like the rest of the sentence normally does.
Example 1
Ek staan op.
In the future tense, the preposition follows the verb to
the back of the sentence and becomes the first part of the word.
Example 2
Ek sal opstaan.
The preposition also follows the verb to the
back in the past tense.
In the past tense, "ge"
is then placed between the preposition and the verb.
Example 3
Ek het opgestaan.
