About Owl's Bilingual Academy
Why I Created Owl’s Bilingual Academy
When I started teaching Afrikaans, I quickly realised something surprising: I simply couldn’t find online resources that explained the mechanics of Afrikaans in a clear, practical way. There were resources that classified parts of speech in detail, or that focused on surface-level issues. But they rarely answered the questions my students asked again and again, such as:
-
Why do we sometimes use “sy” as a male pronoun?
-
How can I tell what tense a sentence is in?
-
How do I turn a statement into a question?
Many of my students had a decent vocabulary, but they didn’t know the rules of the language that would give them the tools to speak with confidence.
So I sat down and began to unravel the rules of Afrikaans in a series of structured tutorials. These lessons proved so effective with my students that I decided to make them available for free to anyone who might benefit from them.
And for anyone struggling with English, don’t worry—we have tutorials for you too. English can be a tricky language with many unusual rules, and these lessons are designed to help you navigate them with confidence.
